5 Ways to Keep Yourself Motivated & Moving #MoveitMondays

You know when you wake up on a Monday, already feeling lethargic, and the last thing you want to do is go for a run, jump through a 30 minute workout video or move your body in any way shape or form? We’ve all been there. And to be honest some days or weeks I am there more than others. Laziness, excuses and lack of time get the best of me and all of the sudden I look back at my previous week and I only ran once (or not at all – oops). Some days my body does need a break but other times, especially as the cooler weather hits, hibernation sets in and I need to find new ways to stay motivated in order to keep myself moving as well as staying healthy, happy and in shape in preparation for the long winter months!

Running through the Forest

5 no-nonsense ways to keep yourself moving & motivated morning, noon and night!

  • Psych yourself up until you get yourself out the door, once you are out there and get into the groove of dancing/running/working out you are sure to run/walk/move further than you ever thought before!
  • Know that nobody ever regrets a workout. I mean when was the last time you heard someone say, “Oh, I totally regret going for that 30 minute jog this morning.” Or “I wish I didn’t dance my heart out last night.” Never. Because it never happened.
  • Know that after you get those happy, feel-good endorphins pumping you always feel 100% better after moving – And you will be ready to take on any challenges during the day!
  • Remember how far you’ve come, where you never want to return and know that with each step, move, jiggle-wiggle, or pump you are stronger than you were yesterday!
  • Set reasonable, achievable short & long terms goals but know that ultimately the only person you are competing against is yourself – becoming a healthier, stronger and happier you!

Running in Fall

I started this Monday out with an 11 km jog. And low and behold, it was the perfect positive way to start the week! One of the main reasons I love to get out and run? Watching the seasons change! I was so excited this morning when I noticed the leaves starting to change and the smell of the crisp autumn air.

Someday is not a day of the week

How do you keep yourself motivated & moving?

  1. I love this! It’s exactly what I needed to hear today! That first picture is beautiful…If I had that kind of scenery on my doorstep I would be up and about in no time! It’s so true that once you get up and going, you mysteriously feel more alive and better than ever – even though we know it’s true, it’s just so hard to get up in the first place?! The mind is a stubborn thing! Great post, I really enjoyed reading it 🙂

  2. I really needed to hear this today! I’ve been feeling so lazy lately and skipping out on all my workouts. I need some good motivation and this really did the trick! I also love your fall leaves, so pretty 🙂

  3. #moveitmodays?!! You are so cute!! I LOVE it!! …and you’re sooooo right! Nobody ever regrets a workout! …and I love the tip about making small, realistic goals!! I’m all about healthy, MAINTAINABLE habits… cuz if you can’t imagine eating/ exercising like that regularly… it’s not going to last long!! 🙂

  4. So true, so true! I especially love #1 because one of my favorite little tricks when I just DON’T feel like working out is to make a little deal with myself … something like “Hey – you can just do walk/jog intervals today” or “You can stop running and just power walk any time” or “No worries if you only do 20 minutes today – just go do a little bit” … and then, low and behold, I end up doing way more and working out harder and better than I’d planned! Sometimes I just have to con myself into getting started! ;D

  5. Great quote! I have never heard that one and plan to use it. Yes, we NEVER regret a workout! I think scheduling exercise on your daily “to do list” and setting time for it helps me as well. Thanks for the reminder to keep motivated!

  6. I absolutely love your motivational posts, Ceara! Definitely perfect for Mondays. I totally have to remember your point of no one regrets working out, so true! Once I actually motivate myself to get out the door, I’m fine. But it’s just getting there that’s the hard part! Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Thanks for the support and kind words Gayle! I definitively need the extra motivation – especially on Monday mornings! Knowing I blog about my activity gets me out the door and and moving! But I totally agree with you, getting out of the door is the hardest part! 🙂 Have a great week!
